The implications of globalization when job seeking is that you are potentially competing with the entire world. Where once upon a time, a job seeker only worried about the local people within the town or city competing for a position, information systems and databases for job seeking are available to just about anyone in the world qualified to do that job.

When competing in a global business environment, candidates should do the best they can to create a competitive advantage against their job-seeking counterparts. This requires closely studying the market, industry, and company the candidate is interested in during the job-seeking process.

2. Good preparation would involve gaining in-depth knowledge of information systems and the most efficient ways the systems within the industry, the candidate is applying for, can achieve one or more of the business objectives.

3. The candidate should study and analyze the company’s culture when trying to assess how they can best contribute towards operational excellence, new products, service and/or business models, customer & supplier intimacy, improved decision making, competitive advantage and survival for the company.

4. Also, candidates must consistently work towards increasing both technical skills and knowledge as well as a business strategy through education or self-education. Candidates should be able to articulate this understanding and application as well as, have the ability to express its proficient use during the interview process.

All of these strategies will have a significant effect on the candidate's ability to close the deal and negotiate proper compensation based upon the above-stated knowledge. Candidates should do the best they can to attain Mastery of their field. This can be done with self education as well as continuing education. Employers want to know, "What makes you better than the candidate in the interview waiting room?" Show them, by standing out and offering yourself the very best negotiating leverage!
