Blogging: Writing Tool Used to Advertise, Inform, & Promote

Blogging: Writing Tool Used to Advertise, Inform, & Promote

Blogging is a terrific medium to introduce, advertise, discuss, or inform clients about your product or service. Blogs should be properly developed and neatly organized for readers to follow.

Keep it Short, Simple, & Concise

For this medium, always keep in mind, the average reader can be easily distracted. A pop up, text message, instant message, etc., has the potential to pull them away from your blog. Try to keep it short, simple, and concise.

Blogs don't necessarily need to be long, involved articles. They should be to the point and clearly outline the ideas, you want to express. Utilize language that informs the reader in a concise manner. Avoid using tone and language that have the potential to offend or dissuade readers from your blog.

Advertising, Informing, & Discussing your Business Endeavor

Blogs are a great way to consistently develop content regarding your product or service. They can be used to introduce your product or service, location, and even explain why its useful to subscribe to your business endeavor. For instance, if you owned a lawn care company, your blogs can inform readers about grass maintenance, wasting water, or how to grow a blossoming garden. Being informed about multiple aspects of lawn care, botany, gardening, etc., will show readers you are knowledgeable about what you do. They'll feel confident in hiring you for additional services.

Read, Proof, Re-read, Revision, Proof, & Read Again

Once you have developed your content, it's time to do some housekeeping. Proofread your blog (out loud) to ensure you have no mistakes. Even the most minor of mistakes could turn readers off. Ensure there are no missing words, misspelled words, or awkward sentences. Most importantly, ensure you have included all the content you intended.

Call to Action

Add a call to action, expressing to the reader, what you would like for them to do. Here, you can add links or contact information for the reader to follow up. It's also a good idea to ask your readers, to subscribe to your blog, to get updates as you create content.

Inserting a Picture and/or Video

Insert a picture and/or video. The picture will serve as a good thumbnail when sharing the link to the article. You can find royalty free photos online or use pictures you took for business purposes. Ensure these photos are high quality and are at least 300 dpi.

Quick YouTube videos can discuss pertinent information, while the blog can highlight the information, the reader needs, to remember or use. Don't forget to link your blog to the picture. If someone does a search and your picture appears, they can be directed to your site.

Inserting Hyperlinks

Inserting hyperlinks can be useful in keeping your blog clean. This way, when you refer them to other articles, resources, or sites, they simply need to click on the underlined word. It prevents your article from looking messy, because it's littered with long links like (http://ensimon2102.wixsite.com/authorerinsimon).

Scheduling Your Articles Keeps You Consistent

Creating content requires consistency and discipline. It can be difficult, to write and publish a blog, on a daily basis or even a few times a week. Especially, if you are running a business. Even the shortest blog can be time consuming in its conception. It may benefit you, to spend 1-2 days writing the blogs, you wish to publish, for the following week(s).

This way, you can focus on the content and its development, without being distracted or disturbed, by other business functions. Blogs can be scheduled out into the future, to keep your content delivered, on a consistent basis. Your base platform may look forward to these. Select how often you would like to publish and stick to it! It's difficult to gain subscribers. Don't lose them by being inconsistent.

Adding Your Bio

Adding a Bio, introduces the reader, to who you are as the blogger or writer of the article. Ensure you have a well written bio. It doesn't have to be formal, but should do a good job, describing who you are and what you do. Your picture should be one that is clear to see. A really good selfie should suffice. Don't forget to include this, on every article. It gives your audience an opportunity, to match a face with a writing style.

Adding Tags

Tagging your article is super important. It's how your audience may happenstance across your article when on search engines. Try to include as many pertinent tags related to the topic as possible. If you were performing a search based on the topic you are blogging about, what words would you use to search?

Cite Your Source(s)

Lastly, always cite your source! Plagiarism is as serious in the real world, as it is in school! Once you see how difficult it is to develop content, you will understand why it's important, to cite your sources and give other writers credit, when acknowledging their work(s).
