Writing: A Multipurpose Tool for Business

Writing: A Multipurpose Tool for Business

Writing is more than a tedious skill. It is a multipurpose tool used to achieve results. Understanding how to use it, offers multiple opportunities, not only personally and academically, but professionally as well.

Writing can be used to generate business. It is used to advertise, market, promote, and inform. Taking the time to practice this invaluable skill, has the potential to propel your professional objectives.

Mediums you can utilize, to advertise, market, promote, and inform potential consumers include, but are not limited to:

  • Social Media Marketing

  • Blogging

  • Emails

  • Designing your website/webpage

  • Letters

  • Flyers

  • Brochures

  • Pamphlets

  • Consumer Cards

If you are starting a business endeavor, consider some things you would like potential consumers to know about your product or service. Also, take time to figure out who your target audience is. Who can essentially benefit from your product or service? Who is most likely to purchase your product or service? For instance, you may be marketing a product for teenagers, but they don't have the money to purchase. Essentially, you will also have to market to their parents.

Identifying your target audience will best direct you in how to communicate with them. Baby boomers are least likely to see your FaceBook marketing campaign. Your millennials are least likely to appreciate the long winded pitch, written in a letter addressed to their residence.

Practice the language intended to communicate with your with your potential target audience. Is it informative? Is it comical? Is it persuasive? Will you be evoking emotion using experiences?

No matter the medium of your choosing, always be clear and concise in your writing. You are competing for time with people, who can easily be distracted by an alert, text message, comment, etc. Get to the informed point of your writing, as concisely as possible. This requires practice, which requires consistency. It's definitely a skill worth working on.

The goal for basic writing for business is to: advertise, market, promote, and inform potential consumers . Consistence and a willingness to practice concise writing, is crucial for your business.
