Encouraging Consistency in Writing: Utilizing The Most Efficient Writing Method For You

Being consistent in writing can be difficult. This is especially in a world where the average person has many obligations to fulfill. Writers often have full time jobs, spouses, small children, and other responsibilities. How you become a consistent writer?

I find it best to write in a manner most efficient for me. I type fast. I can type almost as fast as the thought scrolling across my brain. When inspiration hits, I grab my laptop and get to work. This often means making my laptop easily accessible. Having to go through a whole process, to get to my laptop, will discourage me from writing. It's human nature, to take the path of least resistance. You tell yourself, "I'll do it later," and never get to it.

Establish a workstation that allows you to be consistent. Keep all notes, ideas, drawings, photos, articles, and research relating to your work in this place. If you are more technically inclined, keep all of this information in virtual notebooks, like OneNote. You can access this information anywhere you go, especially when away from your workstation.

If your writing method is a little bit more traditional, ensure you keep a notepad, notebook, or writing tablet within reach. This may mean traveling with it. Carry your writing tablet or notebook in your purse, knapsack, or car. Striking while the iron is hot, is the best way to keep inspiration flowing. Once the moment has passed, so does the urge to complete your inspirational task. Create a habit of passing up the moment and you will lose important aspects of your work. Your unpublished work will remain, unpublished.

Don't have your laptop or writing tablet? Your cellphone may come to your rescue. Voice record vital aspects of your work, including notes, until you are able to get to your computer. There are a number of apps available to assist you within your writing endeavors as well. Set reminders, record inspiration, do whatever you need to, in order to complete your work.

If writing is something you would like to seriously pursue, create habits for yourself that encourage you to write. It takes approximately 30 days to acquire a habit.

The goal in the initial draft is to be consistent. Implement this method and eventually, your story should be completed.
