Being About It

Soup Talk - Being About It By: ERIN N. SIMON Inspired, In-Spirit Publishing 2015®

Taking Action

Often, you will hear people say, "Don't talk about it, be about it." Talking is easy. The idea manifests itself in your mind and you express all the details that begin to populate your brain. Being about it, well, that is the difficult part. How many of us have ideas, dreams, and aspirations that we would love to see come to fruition? Most of us. How many of us are able to bring those things to life? Very few. Why? There was a time when you could have convinced me that the playing field for African Americans and our counterparts were even. I watch us as a community and question; why, we are still perceived as a minority in everything we do with the exception of the crime rate? Let the media tell it, we are the majority, when involved in any nefarious activities.

For the past few weeks, I have been observing the habits of other cultures, like the Asians, Hispanics, Indians (India), etc. What was my observation? They go out of their way to help one another. Nepotism, National Pride, cooperative economics, etc. The do whatever is necessary to solidify them together as a homogeneous group and allows for the opportunity to work together in solidarity Today, I am speaking life, into all of the endeavors you all are trying to pursue. I am proud of you for stepping outside of yourself and working toward what sometimes presents itself as defeating impossible. Be proud of yourself when you achieve smaller goals that help chip away at achieving the bigger picture goal you have in sight for yourself. Savor those small achievements as much as you would celebrate the large ones. Most importantly, FIND A WAY to support others in their dreams. Sometimes, this is as easy as simply encouraging them. I encourage you to talk about it. Write it down. Research it. Build upon it. All of these things translate into being about it. But when you become what you envision in your heart, remember to turn around and help those behind you. Lets follow the example of other cultures in solidarity. Let's support one another in love. Start talking to each other. I know you want to focus on promoting whatever it is you are working on, but big picture perspective shows you something different. Artists, listen to engage in each other's work. Discuss it, critique it, if you have suggestions, offer them. Promoters, I understand that you have a service to provide, but talk to people who have endeavors. Point them in the right direction. Encourage them, see this as more than business, but a way to help solidify YOUR COMMUNITY with talent.

Let's look past the money. As Nas stated, "Cause you ain't take the last dollar made. Long as they keep printing it, there chances of getting it." Sometimes, I feel like people hoard information and resources as though there isn't room for all of us to be successful. Our community is in shambles and we need to find a way to come together. When we do this, we are successful. Success should not be defined in terms of money. I'm not saying give away your talent for free, but start a discussion. Knowledge being shared helps the network to grow strong. CONTRIBUTE to the big picture. CONTRIBUTE to someone's dream, endeavor, aspiration. CONTRIBUTE to your community. Don't just talk about it, let's see you be about your community! As Always, Be Blessed & Bless Others ERIN N. SIMON ERIN N.
